Vitali Kravtsov named best rookie of quarterfinals
To mark the end of the first round of the playoff stage of the Championship – the Conference quarter-finals - the Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the round in four categories.
– Best goaltender was Ilya Sorokin (CSKA), who played in every game and helped his team race to a 4-0 series win, not least by keeping Jokerit off the scoreboard in the decisive Game 4 in Helsinki. The 21-year-old recorded a goals against average of 1.33 - the best figure of any goalie in the League - and a save percentage of 94.50.
– Best defenseman was Jonas Ahnelov (Avangard), who appeared in all six games against Admiral and finished the series with 4 (3+1) points. The Swedish D-man did not receive a single negative rating on his way to earning a +10 for the quarter-final – the best +/- fingure of any player in the League.
– Best forward was Brandon Kozun (Lokomotiv), who scored points in four of his five games in the Yaroslavl men’s 4-1 series triumph over Dinamo Minsk. The 26-year-old Canadian has already racked up 10 (1+9) points, making him the top scorer in the 2016-17 playoffs, and he also contributed 9 hits during the series.
– Best rookie was Traktor forward Vitaly Kravtsov, who featured in all six games of the series against Barys, averaging 5 minutes 19 seconds of ice time and contributing 2 blocks and 3 hits. Kravtsov also scored against the Astana men in Game 1, which, at the tender age of 17 years and 2 months, makes him the youngest goal-scorer in the history of the Gagarin Cup playoffs.
